FEAR AND YOUR FUTURE
Scripture helps you overcome fear and know your future. Let’s begin with the biblical verse from Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The greatest mystery that faces humanity is wrapped up in this question… what comes next? Every year, people spend a great deal of time, energy and resources to try and discover the answer to this question.
Road Trip
Imagine setting out on a road trip but being unsure of the destination. Just start driving. You could drive the world’s nicest car on the world’s nicest roads, but without certainty about WHERE you are headed, the result would be chaos and confusion. Am I right?
It doesn’t matter the color of the car, or the quality of the road, if the destination remains a mystery. In the book of Jeremiah, God speaks to the Israelites to remind them that their future will be marked by hope, safety and prosperity. Although the journey had been difficult in years past, their best days were ahead of them.
Hope Prosperity Safety
It may be impossible to know the exact details of HOW your life will end up, but if you follow God, you can be reassured that where He leads you will be marked by hope, prosperity and safety. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27: 1
Dreaming
Asked about dreaming big, Walt Disney once said, “Worry is a waste of imagination.” How true. Fear and worry create roadblocks to dreams and destinies by preventing people from having the courage to try. In the book of Psalms, King David writes about his relationship with God and asks the rhetorical question… “Whom shall I fear?”
“With God on my side, who dare be against me” Romans 8:31
Fear and your future
In order to conquer fear, you first have to be able to identify what it looks like. Fear rarely announces itself as fear. Instead, fear disguises itself as the voice of safety, caution or comfort that keeps us where we have always been.
What is fear? Think about it as the acronym, False Evidence Appearing Real (FEAR). Fear isn’t about being scared because everyone gets scared on occasion. Fear is the crippling anxiety that aborts your dreams before they ever have a chance to fully develop.
Refuse to allow false evidence to become the basis of your conclusion that prevents you from fulfilling your dream.
According to recent studies, the top three fears that people report having are public speaking, heights and bugs. Other reported fears involve clowns, zombies, flying and darkness. Regardless of your specific phobia, refuse to allow them to have undue influence on your future.

Great victories wait on the other side of your fear. You just have to be willing to cross over, to step out of the box. The road to success and fulfillment is comprised of thousands of small choices and a few big ones. Each choice comes with a fresh opportunity to STARVE your fear and your future while you FEED your faith.
If the worst thing you face in life is occasional failure, then you’ve got nothing to lose in pursuing your dreams. Don’t allow the embarrassment of the past, the shyness of your future or the fear of the unknown to keep you from going for it. Worry is a waste time so don’t waste your life.
